Today is Election Day, if you haven’t already heard. Current President and Vice President Barack Obama and Joe Biden are running for re-election for the Democratic Party, and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are running for the Republican Party. Here is our round-up of all the latest Election Day happenings courtesy of BB Insurance Marketing…

Voting Machine Fiasco

A voting machine in Pennsylvania was removed from its polling place earlier today for having a glitch that actually turned Obama votes into Romney votes. The machine’s glitch was captured by video evidence. The video showed the voter’s finger pressing the Obama button on the screen, but every time the voter pressed the button a check mark came up next to Romney’s name. The machine apparently suffered calibration problems. (via MSNBC)

The Labor Vote

An Illinois woman who went into labor late Monday night and early Tuesday morning took an interesting detour on her way to the hospital. While she was in the middle of contractions and labor she stopped by her local polling place and managed to cast her vote for this year’s Presidential election. The soon-to-be 21 year-old mother said she had never voted before and that this would be a monumental start in the birth of her first child. (via The Raw Story)

Don’t Vote and ‘Gram

Voters across the United States wanted to show their support for their favorite candidates by taking a picture of their ballots, and showing who they voted for. Then voters would upload these pictures to the social media photo sharing site Instagram. However, in most states, showing people who you voted for is considered illegal! This can result in fines, jail time or even a disqualified ballot. Always look before you “like”. (via The Raw Story)

Shocking Number of Non-Voters

According to this article, an estimated 50 million Americans will not vote in the 2012 election. Last election (2008), 45 million Americans (registered voters and unregistered voters) did not vote, and the Census data expects that number to rise by 5 million for the 2012 election. The top reason for registered voters not voting was because they did not like the candidates. The top reason for voters not registering is because they refused or were not interested in registering.
