Talk About A Dump
In Australia, 29 firefighters were routinely trying to extinguish a fire near the city of Port Macquarie. When they called for reinforcements, in the form of a large amount of water dropped from a helicopter flying over the blaze, they were shocked when they experienced what actually came from the chopper. It seems the helicopter was loaded with sewage water picked up from a local treatment plant instead of the river water that they normally use. The helicopter was supposed to pick up treated water, and since they were unfamiliar with the treatment plant, they grabbed the sewage water instead. These brave individuals risk their lives for us, and now they have to put up with this crap. (via Huffington Post)
Can You Hear Me Now?
A 16 year old Californian got more than she bargained for while trying to find cell phone service to call her mom. The teenager was visiting her uncle in the San Diego desert when she wandered up a hill holding it in the air while staring at the phone screen. We’re all guilty of this. While being preoccupied with her cell phone, she unknowingly stepped into a rattlesnake nesting area. She was bitten by the mother snake and then five more times by the baby snakes (talk about a family bonding event). After the attack, she hobbled back to her uncle’s house where she was rushed to the hospital and treated for her unfortunate injuries. The teen is fine, but it will take 2 to 3 months to fully recover. (via Yahoo! News)
Silly Signage Worries Commuters
In Sacramento, a hacker has been changing the messages on an electronic traffic warning sign on the side of the highway. Normally this sign is supposed to alert Placer County residents that a road will be closed for pipeline construction, but instead it was altered to display some alarming messages. Last week, commuters witnessed a message that read “Caution Loose Gorilla!” This type of prank takes skill, county officials said. Apparently, the mystery vandal was armed with his very own portable keyboard to do the damage. (via Yahoo! News)
