– Believe it or not, yesterday the text message turned 20 years old. December 3rd, 1992 was the date of the first sent text message and it didn’t say “hi”, “lol” or “brb”, it said “Merry Christmas.” What started as a test message sent to the director of Vodafone, who was at a Christmas party at the time, turned into an International phenomenon. In 2010, the International Telecommunications Union reported that 200,000 text messages were sent every minute and 6.1 trillion texts were sent worldwide. In June 2012, the CTIA mobile trade group reported that 184.3 billion text messages were sent a month in the United States. So congratulations to Neil Papworth, the man who sent the very first text message. (via ABC News)

– Today it was announced that Netflix outbid the majority of premium TV channels to obtain the rights to Disney movies shortly after they finish showing in theaters. This is an attempt by Netflix to add more recent movies to their online streaming service. Normally these movies would be offered to premium TV networks like HBO, Starz and Showtime, but now they belong to Netflix. This deal marks the first time a major studio has sold their rights to anyone other a premium TV network. (via Yahoo! News)

– According to reports and surveys, the most common complaint associated with smart phone use is that all the excess information on your phone makes it harder for users to respond promptly to a text message or a phone call. Oddly enough, the next common complaint associated with smart phone users is that they do not check their phone frequently enough. Next on the list was bad service, and after that, the lack of battery life. (via Mashable)
