Sports Update Monday: Dolphins and Canes Struggle, FSU Impresses & More
It was a very busy week and weekend in South Florida sports last week, that’s why BB Insurance Marketing is giving you the low down on all the sports stories in your hometown from last week. The Dolphins struggle, so do the Canes, FSU embarrasses Clemson at home, UCF upsets the number 8 ranked team and Marlins stud Jose Fernandez wins the first of many (presumably) potential post-season awards. Dolphins Lose Heartbreaker at Home
Your favorite over/underachievers the Miami Dolphins have lost their third straight game in a row to the division rival Buffalo Bills. Yes, those Buffalo Bills. The team starting their 3rd string quarterback. Not only did the loss come after the bye week, at home, but the Dolphins were in the driver’s seat with little time left in the 4th and that’s when it happened. All-pro defensive end Mario Williams bombarded the Fins’ mid-season LVP, Tyson Clabo and strip-sacked Ryan Tannehill (Who apparently thought the game started at 2:00pm). The Bills recovered the fumble, ran a few plays and let old Dolphins kicker/Nickelback cover band member, Dan Carpenter, kick a field goal to ice the game. The Dolphins now have to face a ticked-off New England Patriots team in Foxboro next week. A place they have not won in since 2008.
Canes Overcome Bad Game to Eek Out First ACC Win on the Road
You would think Jacory Harris still played for the Canes with the stat line that the QB put up on Thursday against the lowly North Carolina Tarheels. Even though the Canes had lost Duke Johnson and Phillip Dorsett for the game and UNC’s stud TE Eric Ebron was carving up the Canes’ defense, “The U” managed to hold on and beat UNC, due to an outstanding 4th quarter drive by Morris and more importantly RB Dallas Crawford who literally ran all over North Carolina. The Canes are now ranked number 7 in the AP and BCS polls and have a 6-0 record. They look to stay perfect at home against Wake Forest next week, and then they have to play offensive juggernaut Florida State on the road. Looks like the rivalry is back (for now)!
In Other News
– The Florida State Seminoles are scary good. Like terrifyingly good at football. If you are a Canes fan, you have lots of Lamarcus Joyner and Jameis Winston sized thoughts running through your head. They absolutely embarrassed Clemson at home, beating them 51-7. It seems 3rd ranked Clemson left their football abilities on the charter buses they awkwardly have to arrive in each home game. – UCF beat 8th ranked Louisville at home and it was amazing. This game had it all: A furious comeback, a last second touchdown drive and a signature win for a certain coach who is just a terrible person. The Knights are ranked in the top 25 and the Gators are not. That is perfection right there. (via Orlando Sentinel)
– Miami Marlins ace pitcher and Braves offender Jose Fernandez has won The Sporting News’ National League Rookie of the Year Award. In my opinion, he should be a lock for the real life NL Rookie of the Year. Yasiel Puig will probably win though. That makes me sad. (via The Sporting News)
I like the BBIMI logo helmet – where can I get one of those?
