Fun Friday & Weekend Events: The Great Grove Bed Race
This weekend, if you’re looking for something wild and exhilarating to be a part of, look no further than The Great Grove Bed Race! What’s The Great Grove Bed Race you ask? Well, The Great Grove Bed Race is an annual event that takes place on village streets in Coconut Grove. The race involves rolling beds (I know right?) down the streets with local individuals, businesses, organizations and clubs that sponsoring these beds in a mad dash to finish line. Here’s how it works. Teams consist of five members, four of them race or push the bed and the remaining teammate gets to ride in the bed. You are also allowed to have a PIT crew of five additional members to help rally the crowd vote for their bed as the crowd favorite! The teams parade for décor prizes and participate in time trials until the fastest eight beds are determined and go head-to-head racing for first place. Prizes are awarded for theme, décor and racing success.

Here’s your chance to race through the streets of Miami at breakneck speed without the fear of being arrested. And do it in front of 30,000 people cheering you on. The Great Grove Bed Race pits five-person teams pushing home-made beds down Bayshore Drive in a mad capped race to immortality. This year, a portions of the proceeds goes to Dress for Success Miami promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Through its dedicated services and programs Dress for Success addresses every phase of a woman’s career from being unemployed and searching, to recently employed and adjusting, to gainfully employed and succeeding. Our programs transition women towards self-sufficiency by addressing their social and economic needs in relation to work, home and community. Each woman is a success story: she has gone from unemployment to economic independence. Since 1994, Dress for Success Miami has assisted over 30,000 re-entering the workforce.
Not only is there a race, but you can also attend the Michelob Ultra Pajama Pub Crawl on Saturday night and the Official Bed Race After Party at Cocowalk after Sunday’s festivities. Since the event is this Sunday on November 3rd, registration for the event is already closed. However, you and your family can still attend the event for just $5 bucks! This year’s Grand Marshal is Flo Rida. Celebrity judges include Karina Iglesias of the Voice, Mayor Regalado and the KVJ 97.3 Coast morning show. The event starts at 11AM and keep in mind it’s the first day of daylight savings so don’t forget to set your clocks!
