Sports Update Monday: Dolphins Rout Jets, Heat Going Streaking and More
It was a very busy week and weekend in South Florida sports last week, that’s why BB Insurance Marketing is giving you the low down on all the sports stories in your hometown from last week. The Dolphins embarrassed the New York Jets at home, the Heat have won 10 games in a row, the Hurricanes finish the regular season with strong win, and FSU is number 1. So check out this week’s sports stories, courtesy of BBIMI!
– The Miami Dolphins put a beat down on the AFC East division rival New York Jets, winning 23-3 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. As lopsided as the score was, it could have been much worse for the Jets, who benched rookie quarterback (and former Miramar High School star) Geno Smith at halftime. The Jets only gained 177 yards in total offense against the stingy Dolphins defense. $60 million dollar decoy, Mike Wallace, scored his 3rd touchdown of the year. A very good game for the Dolphins indeed. (via ESPN)
– The Miami Heat have quietly won 10 games in a row, clinching their 10th win at home against the Charlotte Bobcats. The 10th win was looking doubtful for 3 quarters until Miami, led by three point specialist (what?) Chris Bosh, unleashed a 32 point quarter with Bosh nailing a trifecta of clutch three pointers. Also, in related and shocking news, Lebron James won another Eastern Conference Player of the Week award. Classic ‘Bron! (via Miami Herald)
– The Miami Hurricanes ended their regular season with a bang on the road with a win against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Even though the Canes have a tendency to play bad in sub-freezing weather, freshman stud WR Stacey Coley had an amazingly impressive game against the Panthers scoring 3 touchdowns and gaining 146 all-purpose yards. Next up for the Hurricanes, winning a bowl game for the first time since 2006. (via State of the U)
– Due to the fact that Auburn upset the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in miraculous fashion in the Iron Bowl. The Florida State Seminoles climbed to the top of the BCS rankings for the first time in 13 years. The Noles play for the ACC Championship this weekend against Duke (tell me about it…) and if they win, they will be playing for the National Championship in Pasadena. (via Tallahassee)
