The Miami Dolphins fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman on Monday. The move comes after a week of speculation, during which both owner Stephen Ross and players privately expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s play-calling. Ultimately, the decision to move on from Sherman came from head coach Joe Philbin, who has final say on his staff. The Dolphins’ search for Sherman’s replacement will presumably begin immediately. The leading candidate is Ben McAdoo, the Packers’ quarterbacks coach who worked with Philbin in Green Bay, according to a league source.
The rumors about Al Golden’s status as Miami coach have been rampant over the last few days. Rumors really started taking off after former Penn State coach Bill O’Brien decided to leave Happy Valley to become the next coach for the NFL’s Houston Texans. After O’Brien’s departure, multiple reports surfaced that Golden, a Penn State Alum, was at the top of the wish list for the Head Coaching position.
And then, reports started to come out that Al Golden would be staying at Miami. And then official confirmation of this was given from the University of Miami Athletic Department: “While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position.”
Jameis & Noles Look To Win It All
For Florida State, it has been 14 years since the Seminoles last won college football’s national championship. For Auburn, it has been three. For both teams, it’s about restoring lost glory. The Seminoles face off against the Auburn Tigers tonight at 8:30 on ABC at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Florida State is favored heavily by 10.5 points.
Alabama teams have won the past four national titles. For that matter, teams from either Alabama or Florida have won six of the past seven titles, with only LSU interrupting in 2007. FSU is led by Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, and he wants to return the national championship trophy to Florida State, which fell by the wayside in terms of national stature after winning its last title in 1999. The decade-long drought cost FSU coaching legend Bobby Bowden his job.
