Sports Update Monday: Dolphins/Hurricanes Win Big & the Heat Look to Start Fresh
Tannehill Shreds Raiders Defense Abroad
Ryan Tannehill, the Dolphins’ embattled quarterback, gave his best Sunday when he needed it the most. On the heels of what he called “the most challenging” week of his career, Tannehill completed 23 of 31 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns in the Dolphins’ 38-14 thrashing of the Raiders on a picturesque day at Wembley Stadium. But after Tannehill lit up arguably the worst defense in football, the Dolphins enter their bye with their most complete effort of the year. The Dolphins left for home late Sunday back even at 2-2, just a half-game out of first place. And if the Chiefs trip up the Patriots on Monday night, Miami will be back atop the division because of its win over New England in the opener.
Canes Top Impressive Duke at Home
The Miami Hurricanes avenged last season’s loss at Duke with a 22-10 victory Saturday night. In their loss to the Blue Devils last season, Miami gave up 358 yards rushing. The Canes gave up 83 yards rushing on Saturday night and had the Blue Devils in third and long on many occasions. Duke only completed two of 16 third down attempts and failed on all three of their attempts on fourth down. Miami’s defense caused three big turnovers and held Duke to 264 total yards, most of which was attained during garbage time. Miami was led by their ground attack which amassed 203 yards on only 41 carries. Brad Kaaya was poised in the pocket and threw for two touchdowns and 223 yards.
