Sports Update Monday: Dolphins Crush Chargers, Heat Streak & Miami Weekend is Perfect!
Tannehill Shines & Defense Pitches Shutout in Lopsided Win
In a game featuring a potential Hall of Famer in Philip Rivers, Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was the best quarterback on the field — by a mile. He completed 24 of 34 passes for 288 yards. He threw three touchdown strikes as the Dolphins crushed the San Diego Chargers 37-0 during Sunday’s game. On Sunday, Miami dominated from the opening whistle, handing a playoff contender its most thorough thrashing since stomping the Patriots in 2008. The Dolphins (5-3) simply outplayed the Chargers (5-4) in every phase of the game. The defense recorded its first shutout since 2006. Brent Grimes had two interceptions. Reshad Jones had another. Olivier Vernon forced a fumble that Jared Odrick recovered. The Dolphins look to defend their 3 game winning streak on the road next week against the Detroit Lions.
Heat Streak & Remain only Unbeaten Eastern Conference Team
So much for Miami needing time to find its way with a rebuilt roster. The Heat are the last unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference. Plenty of tests remain, including Tuesday’s home game against the Houston Rockets and Wednesday’s road game at the Charlotte Hornets, but the Heat have been impressive offensively over their first three games. In addition to Dwyane Wade’s excellence, Chris Bosh is off to the most productive three-game start of his Miami tenure, and the Heat have emerged from the first full week of the regular season as the lone unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference after Sunday’s 107-102 victory against Toronto.
South Florida Enjoys Weekend Perfection in Sports
Miami fans enjoyed a perfect weekend and I’m not just talking about the weather! As I mentioned before, The Heat went 2-0 and the Dolphins won big. In addition to those wins, the Florida Panthers and Miami Hurricanes football team all went 1-0. According to STATS, it’s the fourth time those teams posted a win on the same weekend and the first time they went a combined 5-0 over a Saturday and Sunday.
