Sports Update Monday: Hurricanes Baseball Can Score & Heat All-Stars Head to NYC
Canes Baseball Puts Up 25 Runs in a Game, Sweep Rutgers
It’s not clear if the new, flatter-seamed baseballs introduced this year in college made a difference Sunday in the Miami Hurricanes’ 25-4 torching of Rutgers. But it is clear that the bats of the ninth-ranked Hurricanes worked exceptionally well. Miami scored 12 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fourth — a 40-minute marathon at Mark Light Field that had 16 Canes at the plate. UM swept the four-game series with 48 runs on 53 hits. The Hurricanes (4-0) used five pitchers, with sophomore Derik Beauprez earning his first career victory. The Canes travel to Boca Raton to play FAU (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, then go to Gainesville for a weekend series at Florida (3-0).
Bosh & Wade Head to NYC for 2015 NBA All-Star Game
Even though Miami Heat SG Dwyane Wade was injured for the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, he still made it out to New York City to partake in all of the festivities. Wade didn’t play, but he received a loud ovation nonetheless when introduced before the game. The other Miami Heat All-Star that did play, was Chris Bosh. Bosh, now a 10-time All-Star, finished with 10 points in 11 minutes. With 21 combined All-Star appearances for their careers, Wade and Bosh gave the Heat the most All-Star appearances of any other team. Wade is an 11-time All-Star.
