Broward County Postpones Vote on Ridesharing
Broward County, Florida officials have had to delay a vote on the approval of ridesharing services such as Uber because a commission has not finished discussing amendments to the proposed rules. The Palm Beach Post reports that the Broward County Commission spent about six hours studying the amendments, stopping for the night shortly after midnight on Sept. 18. The officials will return Oct. 13 to continue voting on proposed changes to the law individually, with the intent of then voting on the new law as a whole.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that officials have shifted to a self-regulatory model that favors the ride-hailing companies. Uber stopped operating in the county July 31 after saying standards for background checks and insurance similar to those for taxis were too onerous.
