Two Tornadoes Touch Down in South Florida Early This Morning
South Florida is in a frenzy this morning due to the shocking weather most residents woke up to. Trees were knocked down, power lines were taken out, cars were crushed and other countless amounts of damage were done throughout Broward & Miami-Dade counties. Fortunately, according to the National Weather Service, the worst is over, as the storm has moved off the east coast and into the Atlantic Ocean.
The NWS confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in South Florida early this morning, knocking down tree limbs and branches, damaging property and causing gridlock on the roadways. At a press conference, that afternoon, an official with the NWS said the first tornado touched ground in Pompano Beach, at around 7:15 a.m. That tornado was described as an EF-1, with winds of about 90 mph. The second formed in Northeast Miami-Dade, about 35 to 45 minutes later, between Sunlife Stadium and Aventura. It was also described as an EF-1.
For those thinking that you only need Windstorm insurance coverage during Hurricane season only…think again! The weather is as bi-polar as it’s ever been and you don’t want to be uncovered (literally) when the weather gets bad. Windstorm coverage should be in effect year-round because of “off-peak” storms (outside of hurricane season) that happen in the area exactly like the tornado from last week.
